​The wet prep is most often used to identify Trichomonas vaginalis and yeast in urogenital specimens.

Collection Processing Instructions
Wet prep (WET) analysis is no longer performed on the Marshfield campus. If needed, please collect a vaginal specimen in the UVE collection kit and order Vaginitis Panel, NAT (VAGNAT).

Swabs should be washed and expressed in a small amount of sterile saline using a wet prep tube (available from Central Supply). Organism degradation begins after approximately 30 minutes of collection and after one hour, the detection of Trichomonas vaginalis is drastically reduced. Specimens may not be stored. Transport specimens immediately to the laboratory.
