Collection Processing Instructions
Submit in the original collection tube. When cyclosporine is IV administered, the specimen should preferably be collected by venipuncture from the opposite arm as specimens from the IV or in-dwelling catheter are often contaminated. If the in-dwelling line must be used, select an alternate lumen if possible and follow the TPN flush and discard volume guidelines.
 
Draw blood immediately before a scheduled dose to obtain trough level.  Therapeutic range applies to trough specimen results.
 
Specimen can be used for other immunosuppressant drugs testing (i.e. TACRO, SIRO, EVERO), but DO NOT use this specimen for other blood tests except HGMPA (and then only if absolutely necessary). ​

Test Information
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by Marshfield Labs.  It has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.  This test is used for clinical purposes.  It should not be regarded as investigational or for research.

​This test is used to determine the level of cyclosporine in blood. Cyclosporine is an immunosuppressant drug that inhibits the body's immune response and is typically administered to prevent the rejection of transplanted organs, e.g. kidney and liver, or tissue, e.g. bone marrow, and may also be used to treat various autoimmune disorders such as Crohn's disease or rheumatoid arthritis. Cyclosporine has a relatively narrow therapeutic range, making drug monitoring necessary to ensure the efficacy of the treatment, and also minimize toxic side effects.

Interpretation of results should be in conjunction with the above clinical information and any physical signs of rejection or toxicity.​
