Useful For
Useful For
This test is useful for screening for defects and abnormalities in the chain of reactions involved in heme synthesis which may occur either in the bone marrow or in hepatic sites of synthesis. Abnormalities are accompanied by increased urinary and fecal excretion of various porphyrins, their precursors, or both. Increased porphobilinogen (PBG) values are found in acute intermittent porphyria.
