Direct bilirubin measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of liver, hemolytic, hematological, and metabolic disorders, including hepatitis and gall bladder block.​
Specimen Requirements

Collection Processing Instructions
Bilirubin is light sensitive.  Protect samples from light.
Samples collected in a SST or RTT must be removed from cells within one hour for storage or transport.
DBIL can only be U-Haved/add-on from a previously collected sample if requested within 24 hours of the original collection, or if the sample has been protected from light.
