Useful For
Beta 2 microglobulin levels are useful as predicters of longevity in patients with multiple myeloma, and are useful in monitoring patients who have undergone renal transplants.​

In inflammatory disorders (RA, SLE, Sjogren's Syndrome and Crohn's disease) and lymphoproliferative diseases (multiple myeloma, B cell lymphoma, CLL), serum B2M levels are frequently elevated reflecting an increased rate of synthesis. B2M levels in the serum are also useful for monitoring renal transplant patients.
