Lactate dehydrogenase measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases such as acute viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, and metastatic carcinoma of the liver, tumors of the lung or kidneys and in past decades for assessing myocardial infarction.  ​

Interference
Hemolysis will falsely increase result.
Plasma samples stored at room temperature >12 hours, refrigerated >24 hours or frozen are not accepted due to platelet degradation, falsely increasing LDH.​
