23014 Syphilis, Antibody Screen, Routine

Syphilis, Antibody Screen, Routine
Test Code: SYPHAB
Synonyms/Keywords
Syphilis Screen, Treponema pallidum, VDRL, RPR
Test Components
Syphilis Treponemal - Total Antibody Screen
Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) (if needed)
Treponemal Particle agglutination (TPPA) ( if needed)
Useful For
This test is for screening/diagnostic purposes. For therapeutic monitoring order RPR, Therapeutic Monitoring (RPRTM).
Samples will be tested for IgG and IgM antibodies to Treponemal pallidum. Positive screens will reflex to the RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin) test at an additional charge. In case the results of the IgG/IgM antibody testing disagree with the RPR, another treponemal test, Treponemal pallidum Particle Agglutination (TPPA) will be performed at an additional charge.

NOTE: The CDC and WHO recommend both a positive antibody test against the causative agent Treponema pallidum and a positive non-treponemal test such as the Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) before making a serological diagnosis of syphilis.
