Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type Preferred Container/Tube Acceptable Container/Tube Specimen Volume Specimen Minimum Volume
(allows for 1 repeat)
Pediatric Minimum Volume
(no repeat)
​Tissue Tissue, Paraffin Embedded Block, or Unstained Air-dried Slides, Fixed in 10% Neutral Buffered Formalin.  If sending unstained slides, call for additional information. 
Collection Processing Instructions
Submit completed Histology requisition form with patient history and tissue source information.

Brown-Hopps; Fite's; Methenamine Silver Stain; Modified Steiner-Chapman for Spirochetes and Ziehl-Nielsen Stain for Acid Fast Bacteria, PAS Fungus

Stability thresholds vary widely among published literature and are antigen-dependent.  Best practice is for paraffin sections to be cut fresh.
