Marshfield Center Lab: Plasma must be separated from red cells within 7 hours of collection. If assay cannot not be performed within 7 hours, plasma may be stored up to 24 hours refrigerated, or at -20 degrees Celsius for longer storage. Preferred storage is frozen. For add-on (U-have) testing, EDTA whole blood samples (pink or lavender top tube) stored up to 7 hours at 2-25 degrees C may be used to obtain the plasma sample.
Regional Center Labs: Whole blood must be analyzed within 7 hours of collection. If assay cannot not be performed within 7 hours of collection, then centrifuge and remove plasma within 7 hours of collection, and send to Marshfield Center lab for testing.
