Useful For

​Please be aware that this test is only available for ordering on the Marshfield Campus or Weston Campus due to sample integrity.  Patients should present at either of these facilities if this test is needed.

Collection Processing Instructions
Do not use a needle smaller than a 21 gauge for collection. Obtain appropriate volume of blood in first tube labeled DISCARD. Obtain same volume for the two sample specimens next and immediately gently invert tubes 5 times to mix anticoagulant with the blood.  Do not refrigerate, freeze, or centrifuge sample specimen.​

Interpretation
Aspirin Reaction Units (ARU) of 550 or greater is evidence of ineffective inhibition of cyclooxygenase 1 (COX1) enzyme by aspirin. ARU of less than 550 is evidence of effective inhibition of COX 1 by aspirin.​
