26579 Anora Miscarriage Test for Products of Conception (POC)

Anora Miscarriage Test for Products of Conception (POC)
Test Code: MISC
Useful For

To determine if a chromosomal abnormality was the likely cause of miscarriage.

Specimen Requirements

Fasting RequiredSpecimen TypePreferred Container/TubeAcceptable Container/TubeSpecimen VolumeSpecimen Minimum Volume
(allows for 1 repeat)
No
Blood
EDTA Lavender Top Tube (LTT)
6 mL
5 mL

No
Tissue (chorionic vill, gestational sac, fetal skin/tissue, umbilical cord tissue or cytogenetic tissue cell pellets)
Sterile Container - provided with kit

0.5 mm
Collection Processing Instructions

Use Anora kit.

The blood sample is helpful to rule out maternal cell contamination. Tissue and patient samples should be placed in saline, not formalin, and they should be shipped to Natera as soon as possible. Tissue samples should be stored in the refrigerator (not frozen) until the next shipping day. The blood tube (EDTA purple top tube) can also be stored in the refrigerator until shipping.  Ship at ambient temperature, blood and tissue.  DO NOT freeze.

Tissue collection tip:

Separate chorionic villi from blood clots and decidua to include only chorionic villi to reduce chance of maternal cell contamination.  Refer to tissue sorting and sample collection instructions included in the kit.  Sorting samples is however not required.

Cord blood samples should be drawn into an EDTA (LTT), and the tube should be labeled as "cord/fetal blood".  Cord tissue or fetal skin can be placed in the saline POC cup provided with the Anora kit.

Specimen Stability Information
Specimen TypeTemperatureTime

Blood
Refrigerated
14 days

Tissue
Refrigerated
30 days
Rejection Criteria
POC samples sent more than 30 days after collection and parental blood samples sent more than 14 days after collection cannot be accepted.

Tissue and patient samples should be placed in saline, NOT formalin.
Interference

Anora cannot detect balanced chromosome rearragements (Inversions or balanced translocations).  Balanced rearrangements are not a cause of miscarriage, but they can be incidental findings on traditional karyotypes.
